Book Club

Jourden Chastine reads to his class

The Gospel Kids & Teens Book Club was birth in 2001. It was our first community out reach program. The program was design to help combat illiteracy and to ensure that no child is left behind. The program teaches critical thinking, problem solving, reading comprehension, writing  and social skills, and self esteem. Each month a book is chosen as book of the month. The students meet monthly to discuss  the book using all the above skills. I have invented a game call I-READ, which is used as a tool to incorporate the book in the game to make reading fun.

We also have a essay contest yearly on problems teens face on a daily basis. This year our topic is Bullying. Winners will be announced April 15th,2011. Accomplishments: Two 10 year old’s  have written a twenty five chapter book called Friendship. This was completed in two years, that’s extraordinary. One fourteen year old wrote two small plays.

In 2011, will emerge two new authors Jourden Chastine, age 8 and Trent Jackson age 6. They will be introduced to the public in September 2011. We are excited!!

On September 23rd, 2011, Jourden and Trent was given an Award at the Zoe Award Gala. They both finished their book. A book signing is slated in the spring of 2012. We are very proud of them and their accomplishments. Jourden is a student at William Diggs Elementary School and Trent is a student at John Handson French Immerison School.
